Malik Sonny Watts — better known as Beyondsonny — is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter hailing from Brooklyn, New York. He first found a passion for music as a child and began recording songs in High School — where he was quickly introduced to a wide range of different genres by his then music teacher.

“I think my love for music started at a young age. Before I even knew the concept of what music was, I grew up in a Caribbean household so my parents would play a lot of soca around the house so I just took in what they listened to. From there I realized that music could make people dance, it could make people happy. I wouldn’t say I started becoming an artist until my brother got me into Hip Hop. We used to listen to artists such as Kid Cudi and Kanye West and they talked about a lot of the things that I was going through. My older brother also bought me a copy of Tupac’s A Rose That Grew from Concrete and I studied it.”

Sonny’s love for music followed him throughout college as well. He released his first mixtape Reaching Heaven Vol. 1 back in 2014 and released his second mixtape American Hippy Demo in 2019. Soon after, BeyondSonny began his Versus series.
